Trap Shooting
Trap shooting is the sanctioned sport of the Arkansas Youth Shooting Sports Program (AYSSP) administered by the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission (AGFC). The AYSSP season begins February 1 and ends July 31 each year.
The AGFC and OMSD recognize that today’s youth will be tomorrow’s sportsmen. Shooting sports, like many outdoor activities, are great sources of fun and relaxation when practiced safely and responsibly. The program is focused on providing a fun, safe environment for participating in shooting sports and reconnecting kids with the joy of being outdoors. Trap shooting will raise awareness of conservation-related sports, promote safety and responsibility, and raise self-esteem.
AYSSP has two divisions, Junior and Senior:
The Junior Division is composed of participants who will be at least 11 years of age on or before Sept. 1 of the tournament year and currently enrolled in grades 5-8.
The Senior Division is composed of participants currently enrolled in grades 9-12.
All participants must hold a hunter education certification by the AGFC before competing in regional or state tournaments.
OMSD Trap coaches are Andy McCutcheon, Allen Glidewell and Nathan Knapp.
